Forget the plain vanilla dinner and movie. This February 14 is the time for a bit of adventure, and in case you’re running dry on ideas, here is a list of seven unconventional, yet romantic activities you and your beau might enjoy.

1. Get down and dirty

“Hobo” it out at East Coast Park and catch the sunrise on the morning of Valentine’s Day. Lay by the breakers (or, if you’re more adventurous, on the sand) and fall asleep to the sound of lapping waves. And yes, stargazing is possible in Singapore, as long as the clouds stay away. Don’t forget your picnic mat or sleeping bag, and if you need the privacy of a tent, get a permit first.

2. Get active

Rather than your average badminton, swimming, jogging or basketball session, try something out of the ordinary. Form a team or play against each other in a game of Laser Tag; bask in the neon lights as you go cosmic bowling; bring out your inner child at the trampoline park. The options are endless!

3. Get artsy

Head to your local Art Friend outlet, purchase some supplies (a canvas, some paint, etc.), and attempt a portrait of each other. It could turn out incredibly sweet and sentimental, or thigh-slappingly hilarious!

4. Get philanthropic

Instead of indulging each other this Valentine’s Day, why not try your hand at fulfilling the needs of another? It’ll be without question ten times more meaningful and memorable. Take your pick from volunteering at a soup kitchen, an animal shelter, a disabled/elderly home, or a coastal clean-up.

5. Get cooking

Spending Valentine’s Day at home doesn’t have to be a mundane affair. Unleash your competitive self and have an ultimate cook-off! Spice things up by adding a wacky ingredient that you must incorporate into your dish. Loser washes up.

6. Get snapping

(Credits)

Unplug from your social devices, and grab a disposable camera to document your entire date. The best part? Developing the film and admiring all the raw, unfiltered photographs that you can compile into a physical album. And why not select a few favourites to frame as well?

7. Get out of Singapore without getting out of Singapore

Hop on a ferry. Next stop: the offshore islands of southern Singapore. Just a half an hour away from Marina South Pier, these paths less travelled promise a mini-getaway that feels like you’re no longer in Singapore. We recommend stopping by Lazarus Island for its secluded spotless beach.

What are you waiting for? Be creative this Valentine’s Day and make memories you’d want to keep.
